Hirason is one of the architects behind the cost modeling and financial planning
tools and field assessment methodologies.
He has extensive experience modeling costs and revenue
projections for numerous protected areas and conservation programs.
He also has practical experience conducting field assessments, data analyses,
and community stakeholder consultations.
Previous Experience
As a commercial diver with an educational background in marine science, Hirason has worked for various projects with private sector, government institutions, and non-government conservation groups since 1996. He holds a BS in Marine Science from Hasanuddin University, Makassar, Indonesia.

Key projects
Hirason provides technical support to projects across all focus areas at Starling Resources . He has recently been involved in projects in Thailand (Catalyzing sustainability of Thailand’s Protected Area System) and Fiji developing financial plans and cost models for systems of protected areas.
He also has practical experience conducting field assessments, data analyses, and community stakeholder consultations with our community development projects in Indonesia and the Philippines. He is an experienced business and household finance trainer and mentor (Bali Fresh Female Farmers Revolving Fund Design), assisting our partners in preparing business plans for alternative livelihoods and conducting fieldwork and training on the feasibility of conservation concessions and other community based-conservation approaches.
Hirason recently supported the Nantu Forest PA Network Finance Strategy project, assisting colleagues with the development of a cost model to look at the implication of conservation activities.
