Focus
Rezal has experience working with government, communities ,and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in developing community-based natural resource management plans in Indonesia, the Philippines, and Fiji. Rezal leads the development of an avoided deforestation and ecosystem restoration project in a 200,000+-hectare peat forest in Central Kalimantan. He was recently involved as an advisor to the development of CO2 abatement cost curve analysis in Indonesia led by the National Climate Change Council (NCCC).
Rezal is a member of an international standards committee for the REDD+ Social and Environmental standards. He has been invited to give presentations in various international forums including the UN Forum on Forest (UNFF) and Carbon Market Asia.
Previous Experience
Prior to Starling, Rezal was the Asia Director of Marine Aquarium Council (MAC). He founded the Puter Foundation, an Indonesian not-for-profit organization with a core mission to develop and implement innovative approaches to community-based planning process.
Rezal holds a Masters in Urban and Regional Planning from the University of Hawaii and a BS in City and Regional Planning from Cornell University.

Key projects
Rezal is currently engaged in the Katingan Peat Conservation Project in Central Kalimantan, a collaborative project including PT Rimba Makmur Utama, Starling Resources, Puter Foundation, Terra Global Capital and Clinton Climate Initiative. Rezal leads a team of Indonesian of business practitioners, scientists, and community organizers. His responsibilities include leading the overall project design and implementation, supervising a geographic information system (GIS) baseline analysis, overseeing scientific field surveys for carbon accounting, putting together a community development program, and interacting with a wide range of stakeholders from scientists to community members in the field to investors and brokers to international negotiators in the recent Copenhagen Summit.
